IN-VEHICLE USB

Ford's USB team is responsible for engineering USB capabilities in the company's in-vehicle infotainment systems. During my 2021 summer internship, I worked in this team with Louis Bellanca (my supervisor) and Matt Liwienski. My projects were in support of the implementation of a new diagnostics feature to test USB performance in a SYNC media module that would be placed in future infotainment systems.

PROJECTS

Project #1

I developed a specification on how to read the USB media module diagnostics data

Project #2

I coded (using the C++ language) a custom Windows Visual Studio Window Forms query program to display the raw and converted USB hub media module diagnostics data

Project #3

I created a design for a Human Machine Interface (HMI) to display the USB media module diagnostics data

DIGITAL CONSENT PRODUCTS

The Digital Consent product line at Ford is a team that creates, develops, and manages products that deal with gathering digital consents from customers for reasons such as collecting sensitive data for connected vehicle experiences. The team, which I worked in during my 2022 summer internship, consists of one product line owner (my supervisor, Lynn Turnbull), one product owner (Dinesh Srirangapalle) and one product manager (Ratan Gone). I most closely worked on Digital Consent products related to managing one's privacy settings in Ford's FordPass app.

PROJECTS

  • Compiled data pertaining to various Digital Consent products into a catalog of customer experiences

  • Reviewed and provided UX/UI-related feedback or design on existing and upcoming Digital Consent features

  • Helped with front-end testing on Digital Consent offerings before they were pushed to production

  • Created a legal language inventory to validate the privacy language displayed in North America digital product user interfaces

SPECIFIC TASKS

  • Attend various meetings to learn about and take notes on new product development

    • Including a daily SCRUM standup meeting to go over user stories and blockers

  • Work on my individual projects, which included testing upcoming Digital Consent products, compiling product feature information, checking product legal language, etc.

  • Reading/navigating Jira issues and looking at InVision prototypes pertaining to Digital Consent products

  • Communicating with Ford colleagues, including those in cross-functional teams such as software development, about product details and requirements

PROJECT #1: DIGITAL CONSENT CUSTOMER EXPERIENCES CATALOG

  • I put together a comprehensive Microsoft PowerPoint presentation with various detailed information regarding many of the Digital Consent team’s FordPass consent features

  • The information provided included relevant countries/regions, documentation, launch dates, prototype screens, and user engagement metrics that I graphed

  • Once I finished making my presentation, I distributed it and presented it to others within Ford

PROJECT #2: DIGITAL CONSENT PRODUCT FRONT-END TESTING

  • I took part in front end testing various upcoming Digital Consent features within the FordPass app before they were pushed to production

  • Testing included making sure that prototype requirements were met and feature engagement ran smoothly

  • I would put my findings in a PowerPoint presentation to send to my coworkers to look over.
My supervisor and coworker let me know that they thought I did an outstanding job, and they wanted to implement my approach as a standard

PROJECT #3: LEGAL LANGUAGE INVENTORY

  • I had to check that various North American digital products (both apps and websites) showed legal language within their privacy policies that matched legal language recorded for them within Ford's legal language database system

  • I created an Excel spreadsheet that documented my findings

PROJECT #4: DIGITAL CONSENT PRODUCT UX/UI RECOMMENDATIONS

  • I presented UX/UI feedback on various screens within a few FordPass product prototypes to UX designers at Ford to consider

  • I also designed a UI layout for a new product for UX designers to consider

  • Feedback included recommendations on verbiage, formatting, etc.
